Expected All India Rank (AIR)

~ 49,333

Based on an estimated 12 Lakh unique candidates appearing for the exam.

Disclaimer: NTA uses a complex normalization process across multiple shifts. A 140 score in a hard shift might yield a 97 percentile, while the same score in an easy shift might drop to 94. This tool provides an estimate based on historical data.

Understanding NTA Percentile

Unlike board exams, JEE Mains does not rank you based on your absolute percentage. Instead, the National Testing Agency (NTA) issues a Percentile Score.

A percentile score indicates the percentage of candidates who scored equal to or lower than your raw score in your specific session. For example, if you get a 95.00 percentile, it means you performed better than 95% of the students who gave the exam in your exact shift.

Why Shift Difficulty Matters (Normalization)

Since JEE Mains is held over multiple days and shifts, some question papers will naturally be harder than others. To prevent students who received a harder paper from being disadvantaged, NTA normalizes the scores.

  • Easy Shift: If the paper is easy, many students score high. Therefore, to get a 99 percentile, you might need to score 190+ marks.
  • Hard Shift: If the paper is tough, everyone scores lower. In this case, scoring just 160 marks might be enough to secure a 99 percentile.

Our calculator allows you to toggle the difficulty to see how your expected marks might map to percentiles across different scenarios.

How is AIR (All India Rank) Calculated?

Your All India Rank is derived directly from your final NTA Percentile and the total number of unique candidates who appeared for the exam across both the January and April sessions.

Formula: [ (100 - Your Percentile) / 100 ] × Total Unique Candidates

If 12,000,000 (12 Lakh) students appear for the exam, and you score a 99.00 percentile, your approximate rank would be 12,000.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 150 a good score in JEE Mains?

Yes, 150 is a very solid score. Depending on the shift's difficulty, a score of 150 will generally fetch you between a 96.0 and 98.0 percentile, securing an All India Rank around 25,000 to 45,000, which is enough for admission into many good NITs and IIITs.

Which score is considered for AIR if I attempt both sessions?

The NTA will consider the best of the two NTA scores (percentiles), not the raw marks, when compiling the final merit list and generating the All India Rank.
