DO vs MD Science GPA Calculator
AACOMAS (Osteopathic) and AMCAS (Allopathic) calculate your Science GPA differently. The biggest secret? AACOMAS doesn't count Math.
Course Input
The Math Discrepancy: If you struggled in Calculus or Statistics, applying to DO schools (AACOMAS) might be highly advantageous. Because AACOMAS excludes math from their Science GPA calculation, your DO Science GPA could be significantly higher than your MD Science GPA.
AMCAS (MD) BCPM GPA
3.01
Includes Bio, Chem, Physics, and Math.
AACOMAS (DO) Science GPA
3.65
Excludes Math grades.
Your DO Science GPA is 0.64 points higher because you are not being penalized for your Math grades.
Overall Cumulative GPA
3.18
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between AACOMAS (DO) and AMCAS (MD) Science GPAs?
The most significant difference is how they classify Math. AMCAS (Allopathic/MD) calculates a 'BCPM' GPA which includes Biology, Chemistry, Physics, AND Math. AACOMAS (Osteopathic/DO) calculates a Science GPA that strictly excludes Math and Computer Science. If you did poorly in Calculus, your AACOMAS Science GPA will be higher than your AMCAS GPA.
Does AACOMAS still allow grade replacement?
No. In 2017, AACOMAS ended its grade replacement policy. Both AACOMAS and AMCAS now average all attempts of a course. If you retake a failed class, both the F and the new grade are factored into your cumulative and science GPAs.
Are Behavioral Sciences (Psychology/Sociology) considered Science?
No. For both AMCAS and AACOMAS, behavioral sciences like Psychology and Sociology are classified as Non-Science courses, even though they are tested on the MCAT.
