NUS & NTU CAP Calculator

Calculate your Cumulative Average Point (CAP) for Singapore universities. Easily toggle S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) modules to see how they impact your final score.

How the 5.0 CAP System Works

The National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) both use the Cumulative Average Point (CAP) system, which operates on a maximum scale of 5.0. SUTD uses a very similar 5.0 GPA scale.

The NUS/NTU Grade Scale

GradeCAP PointsTypical %
A+ / A5.085 - 100%
A-4.580 - 84%
B+4.075 - 79%
B3.570 - 74%
B-3.065 - 69%
C+2.560 - 64%
C2.055 - 59%
D+ / D1.5 - 1.045 - 54%

Note: Unlike the US system, an A+ does not award more than 5.0 points. It carries the exact same weight as an A.

The S/U Option (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory)

Singapore universities allow students to declare certain modules as S/U. This means the letter grade is replaced with either "Satisfactory" (if you pass) or "Unsatisfactory" (if you fail).

Crucially, S/U modules are completely excluded from your CAP calculation. They do not affect your average, positively or negatively. They only count towards your graduation credits.

  • If you get a C or D in a module and it drags your CAP down, you can S/U it to protect your average.
  • Use the toggle switch in our calculator above to instantly see how S/U-ing a module changes your final CAP.

Honours Classification

Your final degree classification is directly tied to your CAP.

  • First Class Honours: CAP 4.50 and above
  • Second Class (Upper) / 2:1: CAP 4.00 - 4.49
  • Second Class (Lower) / 2:2: CAP 3.50 - 3.99
  • Third Class: CAP 3.00 - 3.49
