A competitive OMSAS GPA is extremely high. For top-tier schools like UofT, the average accepted GPA is around 3.93. Schools like McMaster and Ottawa average around 3.85-3.87. A GPA below 3.80 makes it very difficult to secure an interview without exceptional MCAT and CASPer scores.
Yes, OMSAS calculates your overall Cumulative GPA. However, each medical school uses the data differently. UofT and McMaster look at your CGPA, while Western (Schulich) focuses heavily on your Best Two Years, and Ottawa looks at your most recent three years.
OMSAS itself does not drop any years; they report your entire academic history. However, some individual medical schools might drop years. Historically, UofT had a wGPA formula that dropped lowest marks, but they have recently eliminated this and now use your pure CGPA.
OMSAS includes both the original grade and the repeated course grade in your cumulative GPA calculation. They do not replace the old grade with the new one.
