Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Army ROTC OML formula?
The National Order of Merit List (OML) calculates your ranking out of 100 points. As of the current model, Academic Outcomes (Cumulative GPA) account for 40%. Physical Outcomes (ACFT score and athletics) account for 20%. Leadership/Extracurricular Outcomes (Camp performance, Cadre evaluations, extracurriculars, language) account for the remaining 40%.
How much does GPA matter for Army ROTC active duty?
GPA is the single most heavily weighted factor, counting for 40 points on the OML. A 4.0 GPA gives you an automatic 40 points, while a 2.5 GPA gives you only 25 points. Because the physical and leadership scores are often tightly clustered among cadets, GPA is usually the primary differentiator for securing Active Duty.
What ACFT score do I need for a good OML?
The ACFT makes up the bulk of the 20-point Physical Outcome. Scoring a 540+ (averaging 90+ points per event) is highly competitive and will secure you roughly 18 out of the 20 physical points, giving you a massive advantage over cadets struggling to break 450.
What is a competitive OML score for active duty 2026?
Historically, the cutoff for Active Duty hovers around the 50th percentile of cadets nationally. Generally, an OML score of 65+ points makes you very competitive for Active Duty. If you score 80+ points, you will likely be designated a Distinguished Military Graduate (DMG) and have a high chance of getting your top branch choice (like Aviation or Infantry).
