Frequently Asked Questions
Can I combine two IELTS scores for AHPRA?
Yes. AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) allows nurses and medical professionals to combine scores from two IELTS (or OET/PTE) test sittings. However, strict rules apply: they must be taken within 6 months of each other, and you cannot score below a 6.5 in ANY section across BOTH tests.
What is the AHPRA 6 month rule for English?
If you are combining two test scores to meet the English Language Standard, the two tests must be taken no more than 6 months apart. If you take a test in January and another in August, you cannot combine them, even if the scores meet the criteria.
Can I combine an OET and IELTS score for AHPRA?
No. You can only combine scores from the exact same test type. You cannot mix an IELTS result with an OET or PTE result to create a passing combination.
What happens if I get a 6.0 in one IELTS sitting for AHPRA?
If you score a 6.0 in ANY component (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking), that entire test sitting is voided for combining purposes. Even if you get 9.0 in everything else, the 6.0 breaches the absolute minimum floor of 6.5 required to use the 'Combine' rule.
