Frequently Asked Questions

How many points do I need for OINP International Student?
The cutoff scores vary with every draw. However, generally speaking, an Expression of Interest (EOI) score of 45+ is considered highly competitive for the International Student stream. Draws that are 'general' (all occupations) usually have higher cutoffs, while 'targeted' draws (e.g., Tech or Healthcare) may invite candidates with scores in the low 40s.
Do I get more OINP points for living outside Toronto?
Yes, significantly more. OINP heavily incentivizes regional immigration. If your job offer is outside the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), you instantly gain 8 points. If you also completed your studies outside the GTA, you gain an additional 4 points. That 12-point swing is often the difference between getting invited and waiting forever.
What is the OINP point system for masters graduates?
OINP has a dedicated 'Masters Graduate' stream that does not strictly require a job offer, but uses a very similar EOI scoring system. For the Employer Job Offer (International Student) stream, holding a Master's or PhD gives you the maximum 10 points for education level.
How do I calculate my Ontario PNP score?
Your OINP EOI score is a sum of your human capital and job offer factors. The main pillars are your Job Offer (Skill Level and Wage), Regional Location (Inside vs Outside GTA), and your Education (Highest Degree and Field of Study—STEM/Healthcare awards maximum points).
