Frequently Asked Questions

What is an ORPAS Sub-GPA?
The ORPAS Sub-GPA is a specific GPA calculation used by Ontario Rehabilitation Sciences programs (Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology). Instead of looking at your entire 4-year cumulative GPA, ORPAS isolates and calculates only your most recent 20 half-courses (exactly 10 full-year credits) completed by December 31st of the application year.
How does ORPAS calculate the last 20 half courses?
ORPAS works backward chronologically from your most recently completed semester. They count every course taken in a semester. If they hit 18 half-courses and the next prior semester has 5 half-courses, they will include ALL 5 courses from that semester (resulting in 23 half-courses total for the sub-GPA). They will never break up a semester to hit exactly 20.
What is a competitive GPA for Ontario Physiotherapy (PT)?
For 2026 admissions, Ontario Physiotherapy (PT) programs are hyper-competitive. A competitive ORPAS Sub-GPA is typically between 3.80 and 3.95 out of 4.00 for schools like UofT and McMaster. Occupational Therapy (OT) is slightly lower, with competitive averages hovering around 3.65 to 3.80.
Are summer courses included in the ORPAS sub GPA?
Yes. ORPAS includes all courses taken at the undergraduate level, including summer courses, spring courses, and part-time semesters, as long as they fall within the chronological window of your most recent 20 half-courses.
