Points awarded based on your written motivation, extra-curriculars, and relevant work experience.
What is the TUM Eignungsverfahren (Aptitude Assessment)?
The Eignungsverfahren is the Technical University of Munich's (TUM) specific admissions process. Instead of a simple GPA cutoff, TUM uses a two-stage points system to evaluate your Bachelor's grades, the specific courses you took (curricular analysis), and your motivation.
How are the 100 points distributed in Stage 1?
While it varies slightly by department, a standard distribution is: 60 points for your Bachelor's GPA (converted to the German system), 30 points for Curricular Analysis (how well your previous courses match the TUM curriculum), and 10 points for your Motivation Letter or Essay.
What happens in Stage 2 of the TUM assessment?
If you score between the rejection threshold and the direct admission threshold (often between 60-74 points) in Stage 1, you are invited to Stage 2. This usually consists of a 20-30 minute interview with TUM professors or a written test to assess your technical knowledge and motivation.
How do I calculate my German Grade?
You must use the Modified Bavarian Formula to convert your local GPA into the German 1.0 (Best) to 4.0 (Passing) scale. You can find our Bavarian Formula Calculator in the Germany section of this website.
