Limits of the LizzyM Score
The LizzyM score is a blunt instrument. Medical school admissions are highly holistic. A high LizzyM score does not guarantee acceptance if your clinical hours or research are lacking, and a low score does not mean you are doomed if you have an incredible narrative.
For a much more detailed breakdown of your medical school chances that includes extracurriculars, research, and shadowing, you should use the WARS (WedgeDawg Applicant Rating System) calculator.
What is the LizzyM Score?
The LizzyM score is a famous metric created on the Student Doctor Network (SDN) by an admissions committee member named 'LizzyM'. It combines your cumulative GPA and MCAT score into a single number to help you determine which tier of medical schools you should apply to.
How is the LizzyM Score calculated with the new MCAT?
The original formula was (GPA × 10) + Old MCAT. Because the MCAT changed to a 472-528 scale in 2015, modern LizzyM calculators (like this one) use percentile-matching to translate your new MCAT score back to the old scale before applying the formula.
Does LizzyM take extracurriculars into account?
No. The LizzyM score is purely a statistical 'stat-checker'. It does not look at your clinical hours, research, shadowing, or personal statement. If you want a more holistic rating, you should use the WARS (WedgeDawg Applicant Rating System) calculator instead.
What is a 'Good' LizzyM score?
A LizzyM score of 67+ is generally the baseline for feeling somewhat safe applying to allopathic (MD) schools. A score of 71+ makes you highly competitive for mid-tier MDs, and a score of 75+ makes you competitive for the elite Top 20 (T20) medical schools.
