How it works

In Australian universities, your final mark for a subject is almost never just a simple average of your assignments. Instead, each piece of assessment (quizzes, essays, mid-semesters, finals) is worth a specific percentage of your final mark (its weighting).

To calculate your current grade, you multiply the mark you got on an assignment by its weighting, and add those all up.

Example Calculation

  • Essay (30% weight): You scored 80%. This contributes 24 marks (80% of 30) to your final grade.
  • Mid-sem (20% weight): You scored 60%. This contributes 12 marks (60% of 20).
  • Current Status: You have secured 36 marks out of the 50 possible marks so far. This means you are currently averaging 72% (36/50).

This calculator does all this math for you. It shows you exactly how many marks you have secured out of 100, what your running average is, and what your maximum possible final grade could be if you score 100% on everything left.
