How is Cumulative WAM Calculated?

Your Cumulative WAM is not just a simple average of your semester WAMs. It must be weighted by the number of credit points you took in each semester.

For example, if you scored a WAM of 80% in a semester where you only took 12 credits (2 subjects), and a WAM of 60% in a semester where you took 24 credits (4 subjects), your overall WAM will be closer to 60% because that semester carried twice as much weight.

The Formula

Cumulative WAM = Sum of (Semester WAM × Semester Credits) / Total Credits

Frequently Asked Questions

The calculation depends on the specific grading scale used by your institution in Australia. Generally, we map your local percentage or grade points to a standard 4.0 scale.
A competitive score usually aligns with a 3.5 to 4.0 on the standard US scale, which typically requires achieving the highest grade band (like First Class Honours or High Distinction) in Australia.
Most international universities or credential evaluators (like WES) will perform their own official conversion of your Australia grades during the admissions process. This calculator provides a highly accurate estimate.
