The GPA Cutoffs for Big 4 Accounting Internships in 2026

The Big 4 Filter

Getting an internship at a "Big 4" accounting firm (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG) is the golden ticket for business students. If you land a junior-year internship, you are almost guaranteed a full-time job offer paying $85,000+ immediately upon graduation.

Because these internships are so lucrative, the Big 4 receive hundreds of thousands of applications. To survive the initial resume screen, you must pass their brutal, unwritten GPA cutoffs.

The 3.3 Absolute Floor

If you look at the official job postings for Big 4 internships, the "minimum requirement" is usually listed as a 3.0 Cumulative GPA.

This is a lie.

The 3.0 is a legal HR placeholder. In reality, the recruiters set the applicant tracking software to immediately auto-reject any resume with a GPA below a 3.3. If you have a 3.29, no human being at PwC will ever read your resume.

The 3.5 "Safe Zone"

If you want to guarantee that your resume is placed on a partner's desk for an interview review, you need to be in the "Safe Zone," which is a 3.5 Cumulative GPA.

At a 3.5, the firm assumes you are highly competent. From that point on, the interview decision is based entirely on your extracurriculars (Beta Alpha Psi membership, leadership roles) and your networking.

The Target School Advantage

There is one massive exception to the 3.3 floor rule.

The Big 4 aggressively recruit at specific "Target Schools" (massive state universities with elite accounting programs, like the University of Texas at Austin, University of Illinois, or Indiana University).

If you attend a Target School, the recruiters physically come to your campus, buy you pizza, and conduct on-campus interviews. Because they have a dedicated quota for your school, they will frequently dip their GPA requirements down to a 3.2 or 3.1 just to secure enough talent from your specific program.

If you attend a non-target school (a small liberal arts college or a lower-ranked state school), you have zero networking advantage. You are applying through the online portal, which means you must rely entirely on a 3.7+ GPA to force the software to flag your resume.
