Enter your grades above to see what you need on the final.

How to Calculate Your Required Final Exam Grade

Your final course grade is a weighted average of all your assignments, midterms, and finals. If you know your current grade and how much the final is worth, you can easily calculate what you need on the final to reach a specific target.

The Formula:
Required Exam Grade = (Target Class Grade - (Current Grade × (1 - Exam Weight))) / Exam Weight

Example:

  • You currently have an 80% in the class.
  • Your final exam is worth 40% of your total grade.
  • You want to finish the class with an 85% (often an 'A' in Canada).
  • Calculation: (85 - (80 × 0.60)) / 0.40 = 92.5%
  • You need a 92.5% on the final exam.

Understanding Canadian Grading Scales
