Drop/W Impact Calculator

If you drop before the university's withdrawal deadline, you receive a 'W' (Withdrawal) which does NOT affect your GPA. However, dropping after the deadline may result in a 'WF' (Withdrawal Failing) which counts as an F.

One or two W's are generally not a concern. However, 3+ withdrawals can raise red flags for graduate school admissions and may indicate a pattern. Professional and medical school applications scrutinize withdrawal patterns.

If the low grade would be a D or F, dropping is usually better for your GPA. If you'd get a C, calculate whether the GPA hit is worse than the delay and 'W' on your transcript. Use a GPA simulator to compare both scenarios.
