Frequently Asked Questions

TCS Ninja (₹3.5–3.9 LPA track) requires zero active backlogs at the time of application, minimum 6.0 CGPA, and 60%+ in Class 10 and 12. Cleared/historical backlogs are generally allowed for the Ninja track. However, TCS Digital (7.0+ CGPA) and TCS Prime (8.0+ CGPA) are stricter and prefer candidates with a clean academic record. The key rule is: no subject should be currently failed when you apply or when you receive the offer.
Infosys SE (System Engineer) track requires 65% or 6.5 CGPA minimum with no active backlogs. If you had backlogs but cleared them before the application/interview date, you are generally eligible. However, there are specific campus drives where Infosys explicitly states 'no backlogs throughout,' meaning even cleared historical backlogs can disqualify you. Always check the specific drive's eligibility sheet.
An active backlog means you currently have a failed subject that you haven't cleared — this almost universally disqualifies you from all major placement drives. A dead/historical backlog means you failed a subject in a previous semester but have since passed it — this is treated more leniently. Many companies (TCS Ninja, Wipro, Cognizant, HCL) allow historical backlogs as long as all subjects are cleared by joining date.
Having 2 cleared (historical) backlogs significantly limits your options but doesn't eliminate them. Wipro, Cognizant, and some mid-tier IT companies allow up to 2 historical backlogs. For companies like TCS, Infosys, and Accenture, even 2 historical backlogs may raise red flags during background verification. IBM explicitly allows up to 2 historical backlogs. The stronger your CGPA (7.5+), the more likely companies will overlook past backlogs.
Companies conduct thorough background verification (BGV) after offering a job and sometimes even after joining. If BGV reveals undisclosed backlogs, offers are typically revoked — even after you've joined. This is career-damaging. Always disclose honestly. Many companies have written policies that state: 'Offer stands valid if all backlogs are cleared before joining' — use this window to clear them rather than hiding them.
