NEET Exam Day Guidelines: Dress Code and Banned Items

FastGPA Educational Team

The Frisking Nightmare

It is 1:00 PM on the day of the NEET exam. A student arrives at the center feeling confident. The security guard takes one look at their full-sleeve shirt, hands them a pair of scissors, and tells them to cut the sleeves off right there in the dirt, or they cannot enter.

This happens every single year. The National Testing Agency (NTA) operates under intense pressure to prevent high-tech cheating scandals (Bluetooth devices, hidden earpieces). To achieve this, they enforce a draconian, uncompromising dress code.

If you violate it, the security personnel at the gate have full authority to deny you entry, destroying your year of hard work.

The Official NTA Dress Code (For Males & Females)

The golden rule for NEET attire is: Simple, light, and half-sleeved.

What You MUST Wear:

  • Half-Sleeved T-shirts/Shirts: Full sleeves are strictly prohibited. You will be forced to cut them or denied entry.
  • Trousers / Simple Pants / Salwars: Clothing should be loose-fitting without large buttons, multiple zips, or complex embroidery where a tiny microphone could be hidden.
  • Slippers / Sandals with Low Heels: Closed shoes (sneakers, boots, formal shoes) are strictly banned. You must wear open-toed footwear so security can see you aren't hiding devices in your socks. (Socks are also banned).
  • What is STRICTLY Banned:

  • Jewelry & Ornaments: Rings, necklaces, earrings, nose pins, bracelets, and watches (analog or digital). You must remove everything.
  • Accessories: Belts, caps, goggles, wallets, and handbags are not allowed inside.
  • Heavy Embroidery/Large Buttons: Avoid designer clothes entirely. Wear plain, solid colors.
  • Customary / Religious Dress Exceptions

The NTA respects religious and customary attire (e.g., Hijab, Burkha, Kirpan).

However, there is a major condition: You must report to the exam center at least 2 hours early (usually by 11:30 AM instead of the standard 1:00 PM) for thorough, specialized frisking in a private enclosure. If you arrive at 1:15 PM wearing customary dress, the center will not have time to perform the specialized check, and you may face issues.

What to Carry in Your Hands

You are only allowed to carry a transparent plastic pouch containing the absolute essentials:

  • The Admit Card: Printed in color, with all pages, and the proforma affixed with your postcard-size photo.
  • Passport Size Photographs: Carry at least 2 extra photos (same as the one uploaded on the application) to paste on the attendance sheet.
  • Valid Photo ID: Original Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, or Passport. (Photocopies are rejected).
  • PwD Certificate: (If applicable).
  • Transparent Water Bottle: (Usually 500ml).
  • Note: The NTA provides the black ballpoint pen inside the exam hall. Do not carry your own pen, pencils, or erasers.

    The Psychological Advantage

Exam day anxiety is high enough without fighting with a security guard over a belt. Wear pajamas and a plain t-shirt. The less you have on, the faster you get through frisking, allowing you to sit at your desk, breathe, and focus purely on the Biology section.
