Frequently Asked Questions
NEET PG 2026 has 200 multiple choice questions with a total of 800 marks. Each correct answer gives +4 marks and each wrong answer deducts −1 mark. Questions left unattempted receive 0 marks. The exam is divided into 5 time-bound sections (A to E) of 40 questions each. There is no partial marking — only correct or wrong.
A score of 600+ out of 800 is generally considered competitive for government MD/MS seats. For top government medical colleges (AIIMS PG, PGIMER, JIPMER), you typically need 700+ (87.5%+). For state quota government seats, 550–600 is often sufficient depending on your state and specialty. Private medical college PG seats accept significantly lower scores, sometimes 400–450.
NEET UG is for undergraduate medical admissions (MBBS/BDS) — it has 180 questions, 720 marks, and is conducted by NTA for Class 12 students. NEET PG is for postgraduate medical admissions (MD/MS/PG Diploma) — it has 200 questions, 800 marks, and is conducted by NBE for MBBS graduates. They are completely separate exams with different eligibility, pattern, and conducting authorities.
NEET PG ranks are assigned based on raw scores (no normalization). If two candidates score the same, the tie is broken by: (1) higher age gets better rank, then (2) higher percentage in MBBS. Your rank directly determines which MD/MS seats you can fill during counselling conducted by MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) for central seats.
There is no limit on the number of attempts for NEET PG. You can appear every year as long as you hold a valid MBBS degree and have completed your compulsory rotating internship. Candidates must register their MBBS degree with the State Medical Council before appearing. There is also no upper age limit for NEET PG.
