Middle School GPA Calculator

Middle school GPA is a simple average of all your letter grades converted to grade points. Since middle school classes typically don't use credit hours, you just average the grade points: A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0.0. Add up all your grade points and divide by the number of classes.

Middle school GPA does not directly affect college admissions. Colleges only look at your high school transcript (9th–12th grade). However, middle school academic habits strongly predict high school performance — students who learn to study well in 6th–8th grade typically do better in high school.

Middle school GPA can affect high school course placement. Strong middle school grades in math and English often determine whether you're placed in advanced, honors, or regular level courses in 9th grade — which does affect your high school GPA.

A 3.5 or above is excellent in middle school. A 3.0 is good and above average. Below 2.5 means you may need extra help in some subjects. Most importantly, track your trend — improving from semester to semester matters more than any single GPA number.

When all classes are equal (no credit hours), GPA = Sum of all grade points ÷ Number of classes. For example: A (4.0) + B (3.0) + A (4.0) + C (2.0) = 13.0 ÷ 4 classes = 3.25 GPA.

6th grade GPA itself doesn't go on any permanent record that colleges see. But it's the start of building academic habits. Students who do well in 6th grade tend to have stronger foundations for 7th, 8th, and ultimately high school — which is what matters for college.
