What CAP Do I Need?
Wondering if you can still hit First Class Honours? Enter your current CAP, how many MCs you've done, and your target to see the exact average you need in your remaining modules.
Required CAP Average
How Target CAP is Calculated
The math behind finding your required CAP is a weighted average calculation based on Module Credits (MCs). We use this formula:
Note: When entering your completed MCs, do not include any modules that you declared as S/U, as those do not carry a grade point and don't affect the calculation.
NUS & NTU Target Presets
For convenience, we've included quick-select buttons for standard Honours classifications:
- First Class Honours: Target CAP of 4.50
- Second Class (Upper Division) / 2:1: Target CAP of 4.00
- Second Class (Lower Division) / 2:2: Target CAP of 3.50
Is It Mathematically Impossible?
Because the maximum CAP you can achieve in any single module is 5.0 (an A or A+ grade), there is a mathematical limit to how much you can pull up your overall CAP.
If the calculator says you need a CAP higher than 5.0, it means that even if you score straight A+s in all your remaining modules, you will not have enough credits to pull your average up to your target. In this case, you should adjust your target or use your S/U options strategically to drop low grades.
