Bright Futures GPA is calculated from core academic courses only: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language. PE, health, and other electives do not count toward your Bright Futures GPA.
Florida Academic Scholars requires a 3.5 weighted GPA in core courses, along with 100 community service hours and qualifying SAT/ACT scores. FAS covers 100% of tuition plus a $300/semester stipend.
Florida Medallion Scholars requires a 3.0 weighted GPA in core courses, 75 community service hours, and qualifying test scores. FMS covers approximately 75% of tuition.
Bright Futures uses a weighted GPA calculated from your 16 core academic courses. AP and IB courses receive additional weight in the calculation.
Your school GPA includes all courses — electives, PE, art, etc. Bright Futures GPA only counts core academic subjects (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language), so it can be higher or lower than your overall school GPA.
