College acceptance calculators are not perfect predictors. While they can provide a baseline estimate based on historical data, they cannot account for the 'holistic' review process used by many colleges, which includes subjective factors like essays, recommendations, and personal background.

These tools typically use algorithms where you input key data points such as your high school GPA, SAT/ACT scores, course rigor, and extracurricular information. The calculator then compares your profile against historical data from past applicants to estimate your probability of admission.

An Acceptance Rate is a general statistic calculated by dividing the total number of students accepted by the total number of students who applied. Your Individual Chance is a personalized estimate. A student with a GPA and test scores well above a school's average may have a much higher chance of admission than the school's general acceptance rate suggests.

Beyond online calculators, many experts recommend consulting the 'Common Data Set' for a university to see actual admitted student stats, using your high school's Naviance data, and speaking directly with your high school college counselors.

Unlike simple formulas that only look at your GPA and SAT score, holistic review means admissions officers care just as much about the difficulty of your classes (Rigor), what you do outside of school (Extracurriculars), your personal essays, and your life context.
