The Day 1 Recruiter Trap
Campus placements usually kick off with "Day 1" mass recruiters. If your college brings in Infosys, Wipro, or Cognizant, you might think you are safe because you crossed the 6.0 CGPA mark required by TCS.This is a fatal assumption. Infosys and Wipro are significantly stricter than TCS.
If you blindly fill out your Infosys placement form using the wrong CGPA-to-Percentage conversion, your offer letter will be revoked during the background check. Here is exactly what you need to know.
The Infosys 65% Rule
Infosys is famous for its rigid academic filters. For their standard Systems Engineer (3.6 LPA) and Specialist Programmer (8 LPA) roles, the criteria is:The Percentage Trap: If you have a 6.4 CGPA, you are disqualified. However, many students try to fake it by saying a 6.4 CGPA is "roughly 65%." Infosys HR will physically check your university's official conversion formula. If your university uses the AICTE formula `(CGPA - 0.75) * 10`, a 6.4 CGPA is actually a 56.5%. You will be blacklisted for lying on your resume. Always use an official CGPA to Percentage Converter.
The Wipro "Zero Backlog" Rule
Wipro's National Talent Hunt (Elite and Turbo phases) also requires a minimum of 60% or 6.0 CGPA.However, Wipro is ruthless regarding backlogs:
Furthermore, Wipro explicitly limits education gaps. You are allowed a maximum of 3 years of education gap between 10th and graduation, but NO gaps are allowed during your B.Tech degree. If you took a year back (year drop) due to failing too many subjects, Wipro will instantly reject you. (Check your specific backlog rules using our Backlog Eligibility Calculator).
Cognizant (GenC vs GenC Elevate)
Cognizant follows the standard 60% (6.0 CGPA) rule for both 10th, 12th, and UG. They allow a maximum of 1 active backlog during the interview process, which must be cleared before onboarding. How to Prepare
