Understanding ROTC Academic Standards

The Department of Defense uses your GPA as a primary indicator of your discipline and ability to handle the rigorous academic load of college while completing military training.

Army ROTC

Minimum: 2.5 GPA

The largest ROTC branch. Focuses heavily on the Scholar-Athlete-Leader (SAL) model.

Navy ROTC

Minimum: 2.75 GPA

Highly competitive. Strongly prefers applicants taking Calculus and Calculus-based Physics.

Air Force ROTC

Minimum: 3.0 GPA

Requires the highest minimum GPA. Heavily weights technical and engineering majors.

Note: Meeting the minimum GPA only allows you to apply. To win a 4-year national scholarship, you usually need a GPA well above the minimum (3.5+), alongside strong physical fitness scores and leadership extracurriculars.
